Nottingham Forest to Begin Major Redevelopment Project at City Ground
Nottingham Forest Football Club, one of the oldest clubs in English football, is preparing to undertake a major redevelopment project at their iconic City Ground stadium. The club has been playing at their current home since 1898, marking 127 years of history at this venue. Over the years, the stadium has undergone various renovations in 1957, 1965, 1980, 1993, and 1996. However, in the past three decades, there have been no significant changes to the venue.

With the approval of the £130 million stadium expansion plan, Nottingham Forest is now poised to modernize and expand their home ground, taking a significant step towards enhancing the overall matchday experience for fans and players alike.
The plan to demolish and rebuild the Peter Taylor Stand is set to be submitted to the Rushcliffe Borough Council on June 26th. Following the council planning department's recommendation to approve the planning permission based on a set of planning conditions, the planning committee will consider the application.
If the plan gets the green light as anticipated, Nottingham Forest will be able to move forward with the stadium redevelopment project, which aims to create a new stand that can accommodate 10,000 seats. This stand will be the tallest in the stadium, towering at 38 meters high, and will increase the City Ground's capacity from 30,404 to the initial 35,000 seats.
Originally estimated at £94 million when first proposed in 2019, the cost has now escalated to £130 million. The long-term vision includes increasing the seating capacity to 40,000 and constructing a residential block with 169 apartments.
In a joint statement with the council, Nottingham Forest expressed their commitment to ongoing dialogue with the Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottingham City Council, and Nottinghamshire County Council regarding the City Ground's redevelopment.
Both parties reaffirmed their efforts towards the planning committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 26th, to review the application, emphasizing that there will be no further comments beyond what is required by the legal procedures.
The final administrative processes are expected to be completed by 2026, with Nottingham Forest planning to commence construction shortly thereafter. The ambitious project signifies a significant investment in the club's future and aims to elevate the stadium to modern standards while preserving its rich heritage and traditions.
